Providing for the Care of Your Pet in Minnesota

Minnesota is one of the few states that does not allow the creation of pet trusts. Nevertheless, there are ways to work around this fact.

For example, you could bequeath your pet to someone you trust, and provide a sum of money in your will to that person, stating that the money is to be used for the care of your pet. You can be very specific about the level of care that is to be provided. You can also indicate what you wish to be done if the person entrusted with your pet can no longer carry out those duties. Of course, before updating your will in this manner, you should speak with and get the approval of the person to whom you want to bequeath your pet.

We can discuss these issues with you, including the level of funding that will be sufficient to provide care for your pet over the course of its natural life. Based on your needs, our experienced attorneys will then create the documents needed to achieve your goals.
