Dakota Woman’s Online Boyfriend Revealed to Be Ex-Husband

June 14, 2013 by Sheridan & Dulas, P.A.

A West Saint Paul woman was shocked after finding out her online boyfriend was really her ex-husband, monitoring her every move.

According to court records, the woman and her ex-husband were granted a divorce in 2011. They have two small children together and have argued over child custody issues in court.

Approximately three months after her divorce, the woman met someone through a dating website who said his name was “Aaron Carpenter.” The two began an online relationship, sending each other emails, photos and text messages. For almost a year, the woman shared with Carpenter private details about her life and everyday behavior.

As the online relationship progressed, the woman became suspicious of Carpenter after he started telling her things only her ex-husband would know, and her ex-husband started appearing in places she only told Carpenter she would be. The woman confronted her ex-husband with her suspicions, and he admitted to using images from Google and Facebook to create the online character of Carpenter.

Soon after the confrontation, the woman took out an order for protection against her ex-husband. He faces two counts of gross misdemeanor stalking. In addition, the ex-husband is not allowed to get in touch with with his ex-wife except to enable him to set up phone calls with their children.

Whether you are dealing with a situation involving a Minnesota divorce, custody, child support, or the need for a protective order, it is prudent to hire an attorney who has the experience and courtroom skills required to represent your interests in divorce court whenever it becomes necessary.
