Thanksgiving Day Chase Leads to DWI Arrest in Minnesota

December 4, 2013 by Sheridan & Dulas, P.A.

After a car chase that occurred on Thanksgiving Day, a Minnesota man has been arrested for DWI. The chase allegedly began after Minnesota officers tried to pull him over for a traffic stop. The man faces charges of DWI, fleeing an officer and other traffic-related crimes.

According to the report, police officers in St. Cloud attempted to pull a vehicle over on I-94 at Country Road 136 for a routine traffic violation. The report does not state the specific violation that warranted police to pull the vehicle over. However, when police signaled for the vehicle to pull over, the driver refused, and a chase began.

The arresting officers claimed that they used “stop sticks” to puncture the vehicle’s tires and eventually halt the chase. When police approached the driver, they claim that he resisted arrest, so they decided to Taser him to get him to comply. The man was subsequently arrested and taken to the Stearns County Jail. He has been charged with various DWI charges, numerous traffic infractions and fleeing an officer.

The maximum amount of jail time each sentence warrants if convicted was not given in the report, but the man undoubtedly faces serious charges. The report did not indicate whether any tests were administered to determine if the man actually was DWI. In the event none were taken, the DWI charges may be reduced or even dismissed from the court record due to lack of evidence. However, it is clear that the Minnesota man has a long road ahead of him as he prepares his criminal defense as his case moves forward.
