Actress, comedian and television personality, Sherri Shepherd is accustomed to being in the spotlight for professional reasons. More recently, however, Shepherd’s name has been in the news for personal reasons related to two child custody battles she’s fighting with her exes.
The 47-year-old’s first ex-husband recently filed an emergency petition to modify child custody. According to Shepherd’s ex-husband, Shepherd is neglectful of their son who is essentially being raised by “inexperienced nannies”. As a result of the alleged neglect, the boy is delayed in his physical and cognitive abilities.
Even more recently, Shepherd’s second husband announced his decision to file for divorce from The View co-host. Along with the divorce filing, Shepherd’s soon-to-be second ex-husband, is seeking full custody of the couple’s unborn child, who is being carried by a surrogate.
However, Shepherd’s second husband faces many obstacles in his quest for full custody of the couple’s unborn child, one of which relates to the couple’s prenuptial agreement. The prenuptial agreement stipulates that, in the event the couple divorces, Shepherd is to retain full physical and legal custody of the unborn child.
According to news sources, Shepherd’s husband is seeking to have the couple’s prenuptial agreement invalidated on grounds of fraud. If he is successful, he may move forward with his legal attempts to gain full custody of the child. He may also profit financially from a prenuptial invalidation as the couple’s current prenup stipulates he receive only $60,000.
Shepherd’s situation is unique in that she is fighting two ex’s in separate child custody battles. The accusations made against her, however, are common in child custody battles. Parents fighting for child custody often contend one parent works too much or is neglectful of a child. Minnesota parents who are dealing with child custody disputes would be wise to seek the advice and assistance of an attorney who can represent and defend their position in child custody matters.
