What happens during the course of a DWI stop or an attempted DWI stop can have many impacts. In some instances, a person may end up facing charges beyond just DWI charges based on conduct they allegedly engaged in during a stop or an attempted stop.
A South Dakota man has recently found himself in this situation here in Minnesota. According to authorities, an attempted traffic stop on the man led to a police chase and a vehicle erupting into flames.
The man purportedly was driving an SUV in Cottage Grove on Saturday afternoon. Police attempted to pull the SUV over after receiving a report that the SUV had jumped a curb and hit a rock. However, authorities claim that the man resisted these attempts and led police on a chase. The SUV finally came to a stop after purportedly going the wrong way on a road. Following coming to a stop, the SUV caught fire.
Police extricated the man from the SUV and then placed him under arrest. Police allege that the man was intoxicated. He was arrested on suspicion of felony fleeing, DWI and test refusal.
What happens after a DWI stop and arrest can also be very impactful. There are many different tactics authorities may use to try to secure a conviction. Thus, the longer a person waits to seek help from a defense attorney following being subjected to a DWI stop and arrest, the more their defense options may diminish. Thus, when facing DWI charges and other charges related to an alleged DWI incident, contacting an attorney is one of the first things a person should think about.
