Understanding Divorce: Helping You Make the Right Decisions

April 10, 2015 by Sheridan & Dulas, P.A.

A divorce is a complex legal process that involves extreme emotions. There’s a lot at stake for divorcing Minnesota couples: children, finances and assets. Complicating things further is that most people don’t really know a lot about the divorce process. They don’t know what options they have available and this can leave them frustrated. Knowledge is power, so we believe that it’s important to give clients the power they need to make the right decisions.

Every relationship is different, so it doesn’t make sense to use a cookie cutter approach. Instead, we listen to your concerns and come up with workable solutions based on your unique situation. No one wins when the process is overly complicated. It’s best to allow divorcing couples to negotiate whenever possible so they – not a judge – can choose the outcome. We try to avoid litigation because not only is it costly, but it is emotionally draining as well. This does nothing to help an already stressful situation.

Whether you have concerns about child custody, property division or alimony, we will address them all so you are armed with the information you need. We can help you even if you are going through a high asset divorce. We understand that there will likely be disputes regarding some issues, and while we make no guarantees, we will do our best to remedy any contentious issues outside of court when possible.

If you’re going through a divorce, we understand the need for you to make your own decisions. It’s all about your goals and desires. We’ll provide you with the information you need to give you the best possible outcome.
