The Right Information Can Be Invaluable In Child Custody Matters

February 15, 2017 by Sheridan & Dulas, P.A.

When couples in Minnesota divorce, child custody is probably the most wrenching issue emotionally. Parents worry, understandably, about the emotional impact their divorce will have on the kids. And, for the parents themselves, the realization that they may no longer see their children every day can be devastating.

Minnesota courts put the best interests of the child first when deciding custody and visitation matters. Parents should likewise make the child’s well-being the primary goal in arriving at a workable custody and visitation arrangement. Unfortunately, even well-intentioned parents may disagree about what is in the child’s best interest.

Negotiating with the other parent on child custody issues is rarely a simple process. But, when a parent has the right information about the legal options in a child custody dispute, the process can go a lot more smoothly. The right information can help parents understand their rights under the law and what the judge might do if the parents are unable to agree. The right information can help the parent reach an agreement with the other parent on a workable custody and visitation schedule.

At our law firm, we do our best to help parents in Minnesota get through the divorce and child custody. We are sensitive to the needs of both the children and parents during this difficult and stressful time. We work hard to negotiate a custody and visitation agreement that serves the best interests of the child and also respects a parent’s wish to maintain a healthy relationship with the child and be involved in the child’s upbringing.
